Why should my child learn a second language so young?
Continued... With the invention of the internet, quicker and
more effective communication tools, and more efficient and economical
transportation sources, our world is shrinking. We live in a global
community where the nations of our world are interlinked more closely then ever
before. We live in a global economy. We depend on other nations in
ways previous generations would have never imagined. This change to our
world makes it even more important that we can communicate effectively with the
other members of our global community. Other nations have made it a
priority to teach their children languages outside of their native tongues.
The United States has recently started embracing the importance of this as well,
but unfortunately, due to many intricacies in our public school systems, it is
definitely the exception instead of the rule for elementary schools to have a
world language program as part of the curriculum today. If we want our
children to be future leaders within our global community this has to change.
We need
to provide them the tools to learn world languages in early childhood, the most
appropriate physiological age.
